About Schafer's Auto Center
Schafer's Auto Center in Philadelphia does Pennsylvania emissions tests at prices reviewers call excellent, and the front desk - Bridget and Chris especially - keeps people coming back. Blinking engine lights get same-day come-on-in responses, courtesy oil changes happen, and last-minute pinches get absorbed into the schedule.
The hiring or training must be doing something, per one reviewer who can't otherwise explain the service culture. One first-visit-great, second-visit-bad report exists. Rated 4.6 across 550 reviews.
Customer Reviews
I recently came here for an emissions test, and I cannot recommend this place enough! Not only do they have excellent prices, but the entire team is completely professional and incredibly warm. You can tell they truly care a lot about their customers, and I experienced a deeply human level of care there - something that is honestly so hard to find at other general repair shops in Philadelphia. The whole experience was just incredible. I especially want to highlight Jennifer - she quite literally saved my life! Her customer service was absolutely impeccable, warm, and highly efficient. I am so grateful for her help. I will definitely be coming back here for all my future car repairs and maintenance. If you are looking for a reliable shop, this is it. Highly, highly recommend!
My engine light and drive light started blinking, I immediately called Shafer’s because I have used them before. They told me to come on in and they were able to atleast give me a diagnosis and they had the part the next morning and it was installed way earlier than I was told. Their service and professionalism is awesome as well as the customer care. My part was warrantied which was amazing. Thanks so much highly recommend Shafer’s
It was a nice experience visiting this clean and organized shop. Thank you for the courtesy oil/filter change. Not many shops can afford this anymore. I was very satisfied with the front counter reception, the upstairs waiting room with service area windows, and the thorough multi-point inspection with photos, recommendations, and cost estimates! I’ll shall return in the future and also recommend to friends and neighbors!
The team here does a great job! I'm always able to get my car in within a reasonable time and they are quick to get it back to me. Everyone at the front desk is kind and takes every concern seriously. When problems come up with your vehicle they are well documented and explained, and they're honest with what can wait to be done vs what they recommend needs to be done right away. They go above and beyond and I always feel good walking/driving out of there.
I don’t know if it’s the hiring or the training, but Schafer’s Auto is doing something right with their customer service. Whether it’s something routine or an emergency, they have been helpful and attentive every time. No matter how busy they are, they genuinely want to help you.
Whether you're in a last minute pinch or had an appointment, they really come out the wood work to fit you in, get your vehicle completed in a timely fashion and with full transparency. Judgement free when it comes to doing checks to see if something needs to be done, the scaling system they use with recommendations are a needed practice in today's automotive world. They know what they are doing and they are affordable. Im a skeptic when it comes to using new auto spots but from working on my fiancé's car, man I couldn't tell you the level of satisfaction there was. I think others should try them out and witness what I witnessed. Talk about being happy with service.
The service and staff here could not better, Bridget and Chris especially! It is such a nice change of pace dealing with nice, personable, animated people at an auto repair place. All pricing was to the penny what I was quoted, and at no point did I feel pressured about anything and everything was explained fully in layman's terms. This is, hands down, the best service experience I have ever had for mechanical work. Good coffee, too!
I'm new to PA and got a ticket for not having an inspection. I swung by and they explained the process, got me in right away and took care of me! I went to AAA first and they acted like I was the dumbest guy around and wanted to schedule weeks down the road. What a meme, come to Schafers!
I'm continually impressed by the customer service and the transparency I get with Schafer's Auto Center. I continually recommend them to all of my friends and co-workers or anyone that's talking about needing to find a reliable mechanic.
I’d like to preface this by saying I had a great experience during my first visit here. The front desk was helpful, funny, and extremely transparent. I even went on to rave about how nice it was to speak to such friendly, honest people! With that said, I am disappointed with the service I received with the technician that worked on my car & the response from the manager at this shop. I do not like addressing concerns publicly & brought my concern to the attention of the manager first in hopes for some clarity and to know my concerns would be addressed to the technician privately that worked on my car. When I make a mistake or need correction in my line of work, I happily receive any opportunity to improve and be better. I am a nurse & this is crucial. Unfortunately, the manager quickly dismissed any possibility of error on their end, even though my car has not been touched since my inspection with this shop. To explain, I do very little mechanic work on my Subaru, but what I can do I take pride in. This includes changing brake pads and rotors. I finally got around to changing my brake pads this weekend and while attempting to remove a lug nut, found that it was cross-threaded and obviously tightened with an impact wrench. As you can imagine, I had to recruit help (from family) to remove this lug nut which in turn broke the lug bolt. I fully recognize this is a minor inconvenience, especially in the scheme of cars. Unfortunately for me, it added a significantly greater amount of time and work; though I was able to replace the broken pieces and complete the full brake pad change. It’s my fault that it takes me 4 hours to do the work one mechanic can do in an hour. My car is completely fine at very little extra cost to me for a few new lug nuts and bolts. If anything, I was considering returning to this shop if I had known my concern was raised and that it wouldn’t happen again. Instead, the manager misquoted me and I’m not even sure the email was even glanced over for typos? In the service industry, it’s never possible to address everyone’s concerns and I’m well aware of this. I didn’t expect anything much but to know my concerns were heard and that feedback would be provided. “Not sure about this?” Is not how you address a concern, whether major or minor. 5/5 stars to the front desk, you all are great! And whoever answers the phone most of the time - I appreciate your candor and humor. Thank you in advance to anyone that suffers through reading this 🤣. I can see why this shop is highly recommended; though, I wish my experience was better. Appreciate the great work you all do!
