About Brown Motor Works

Brown Motor Works in Columbia, South Carolina is the BMW-dealer alternative - after outrageous dealer pricing, Broad River Road delivers prompt service at reasonable prices, and Kobie walks newcomers through everything with unusual kindness. A Florida traveler on I-77 got rescued mid-trip, and newly relocated brake customers without a ride home got one.

Phone-quote discipline needs work per one frustrated caller, and one gasket job resurfaced. South Carolina has no emissions testing. Rated 4.5 across 185 reviews.

Great customer service and professional. Had to drop off our car to get the brakes fixed. Had no way home (just moved to Colombia SC) and the gentleman at the desk said he would get a mechanic to take us home and called when the car was ready and pick us up if we needed it.

I am just taking this opportunity to give Brown's Motor Works in Columbia, SC an outstanding review. I am from Florida and was traveling South on I-77 heading towards I-26 west when every light on my dashboard came on. Of course, I called the dealer of my car with was the Acura dealership in that city and was told they didn't work on cars that had no history with them and over tens years. I inquired if they had a referral and someone in the background said, "Brown's Motor Works." I called Brown's and explained what was happening with my car and they said tow it to them and they would have it back on the road. After fixing my car, it drove amazing and they cleaned my car inside and outside! The mechanic even told me to give the receipt to my mechanic in Florida to let them know what they fixed. Thank you Brown's Motor Works for your professionalism, the outstanding quality of work and your reasonable price for all 6 of the items you fixed. That was very scary because I was traveling alone. You are the best!! 👌🏾

Kobie, you are 100% of the reason this review is getting 5 stars. He was the most kind, helpful and knowledgeable person I have come across in a while. He showed me what was wrong, explained why it was a problem and gave me suggestions. Thank you!!

After poor services and outrageous prices at a local BMW dealer i took my vehicle to Brown Motor Works on Broad River road. Service was prompt, price was reasonable and best of all "They Clean My Vehicle inside and out!" They even got a stain out of my carpet, amazing job guys!!! Just found my new service place for my BMW.

Wow! I can not express enough how amazing my experience was with Browns Motor Works on BROAD RIVER! My steering went out in my 2016 Mercedes. Browns was able to get my vehicle in promptly, when my usual shop had a wait. They quoted me an incredibly reasonable price! Once they had the vehicle they preformed a full diagnostic and even completely detailed the vehicle, in and out! Mr. Scott is an angel and was patient with me during an extremely difficult time. They have a customer for life!

Terrible experience. I took my 2005 VW Passat TDI in with an oil leak and they said the turbo was leaking and needed to be replaced. After $4,000, I picked up my car and the splatter shield under the engine compartment partially detached and started dragging once I got on the freeway. They were very apolegetic and ordered a new trim piece without charging. I understand that accidents happen so I tried to be patient with them. Once it arrived, they bolted (and zip-tied!) the new piece on. Driving it home that time the turbo didn't work properly and I couldn't accelerate at all on the freeway. Not wanting to drive it back there just to be frustrated again, I have since taken it to another shop that replaced a boot that was broken (that Brown Motor Works must have taken off and put back on when they replaced the turbo) and straightened out another hose that wasn't installed like it should have been. They were always nice when I spoke with them, but I've never had a more frustrating experience with an auto shop. UPDATE: In the end, the turbo they installed was faulty, so they replaced it under warranty and so far it is working fine.

I hate having my time wasted for absolute nonsense. Called for a brake replacement quote 2 days ago and was told they needed to take a look to confirm which kind so I need to stop by so they could see. I said ok I can do that. I leave work to do that and the guy there tells me I need to SCHEDULE a time to drop it off for them to look at the brakes to give me a quote! Ridiculous. That's like dropping off a car for them to confirm tire size to then drop off a second time for the actual installation. This wasn't a diagnostic situation. I'll just pay more at the dealership for less aggravation.

I had valve cover gaskets put on my 2001 C320 mercedes. The car has been driven approximately 10,000 miles and I spelled oil burning. Took it to a different mercedes repair shop and the valve cover gaskets are leaking oil again. The mechanic said that Brown Motor Works used low quality quality parts and did a very poor job repairing the valve cover gaskets. Now I am stuck with another huge repair cost because BMW motors said the repair is out of warranty by a few months. Update: RA the owner said that he would redo the valve cover for free. Update: The mechanic at Brown Motor Work said the valve covers were not leaking. The valve cover are leaking on the drivers side. I had three mechanics to look at it and they told me that is where that burnt smeii is coming from when I turn on the air condition. One mechanic took a picture od the leak and sent it to me.
