This Freedom Smog location (Riverbank/Stockton area) gives veterans a super discount, and Leonard and David run in-and-out 20-minute smog checks with what customers call rare honesty. No hidden charges or surprises, per two-time repeat visitors, at roughly $88 reported for the full check.
One truck failed on the visual inspection despite passing everything else - a known friction point with older modified vehicles - and one customer found the price unbelievably steep versus competitors. California smog. Rated 4.3 across 320 reviews.

I have been utilizing them for years. Excellent service and super discount for veterans.
Leonard was very professional and friendly. I was in-and-out in 20 minutes. Very simple and straight forward service. Thank you!
David was amazing. He was patient, professional, and got my smog check done quickly. He showed a lot of humility and honesty, which is rare to find. I appreciate how smooth and easy he made the whole process. Highly recommend! thanks David.
Have been to the Riverbank store twice. Both times the staff have been courteous and professional. No hiddfen charges or surprises. Will be back again. Highly recommended.
very satisfied with the service i received at Freedom Smog. I was in and out in under one hour. the price was very fair and the customer service was exceptional. I will definitely be recommending and coming back to this business. Thank you.
They are quick but over priced AND if you have a coupon make sure you tell them ahead of time becuase when you go to pay they say they cant add it. I went here becuase my normal place was busy but I won't make that mistake again. They are more than half the price of freedom smog.
I had a very disappointing experience at this shop. My truck was failed on a visual smog inspection despite passing all other testing metrics. Wanting a second opinion, I immediately took the vehicle to Golden Smog, where it passed inspection without any issues. The inconsistency between the two inspections raises serious concerns about the accuracy and integrity of the evaluation performed here. It felt more like an attempt to generate additional retesting fees than provide an honest inspection. Because of this experience, I will not be returning and would not recommend this shop to others looking for fair and reliable service.
Unbelievably expensive smog check. I sent my husband to get a smog check anywhere around town & he went to whatever was the closest & seemingly most convenient. Unfortunately he didn't ask what the cost was before having the service done. Who could have guessed that they charge over $88 for a smog check?!? When I called to inquire what the reasoning was behind the price, the owner was very rude & gave me unreasonable excuses. He offered no appeasement, nor did he even apologize. Please don't give your money to someone who doesn't deserve your business, let alone to be able to run one.
I thought this was a good place to get my smog insepction, I came in 45 mins to closing and was allowed to get my vehicle smogged. At one point they didn't know where the battery was. I opened the trunk to show them, they see a subwoofer and immediately said "you have beat" in the car we can't do the smog check. A second guy came and looked and said it's okay, we can do it. I was told my vehicle did not pass smog due to a fuel leak and i need to get it checked by a mechanic. I paid some where around $120 for the service, I justified the price as reasonable given it's a mom and pop shop and they were willing to do it without an appointment. I was informed if i bring the car back in 90 days they would re-do the inspection for $45. This is the most expensive smog station. Took my vehicle home and on the way I stopped to get gas, my fuel cap was missing. Had to go back two days later to grab my fuel cap as it was a Saturday. With all that said, took my car into a specialist to check the fuel leak (mind you, nothing has been wrong with my vehicle and hasn't had smog issues), mechanic confirms there is no leak. Note: this is an OBD1 vehicle, you have to know what you're doing. It's not a plug and let the computer do it's thing. How do we support local businesses if this is the care and quality we're getting?
This place is overpriced and a rip off. Other places charge less for the same service. Call around for best deal and check for coupons. My daughter paid $88 for my car today. Lesson learned the hard way. Very sad.
