About Girlington Garage

Girlington Garage in Vermont does loaner cars, clear estimates, and Vermont safety inspections described as impressively thorough with detailed digital reports. Recommended additional repairs come with no shame attached if you decline them, and Demeny's crew will map out every issue on a well-loved Toyota with time-sensitivity rankings.

The negatives involve invoice surprises (five added services on an inspection-plus-battery visit) and a Crosstrek dispute - review the line items. Vermont safety inspection territory. Rated 4.7 across nearly 500 reviews.

With the convenience of a loaner, I could easily schedule service. They provided a clear and complete estimate of service, and I could identify what service required immediate attention. Friendly, flexible, and affordable service!

Great service, thorough inspections and recommended additional repairs with no shame should you not elect to do them. I chose to support Girlington specifically because I want a business I can trust to be honest with myself as well as someone my wife can feel confident will be honest with her. Too often does this industry have different standards of communication between the two male/female audiences.

This was my first experience with a Vermont safety inspection, and I was more than impressed by the thoroughness with which they were done and the detailed digital report that followed. Great communication. And who doesn't like a surprise chocolate chip cookie on the dashboard! We just moved here and will inevitably be looking for a place to do repairs. From first impressions, Girlington will be that place .

I needed major repairs on my well-loved Toyota. They gave me a full diagnostic with estimates for repairing every possible issue, and were forthcoming about which repairs were urgent and which could wait. My old car drives (and sounds) so much better since its visit, and the customer service and communication were excellent

Demeny and the crew provided amazing service. I asked to get a look over of my whole vehicle to get an idea of how many repairs I need to make and how time sensitive each issue was. Demeny herself made sure to call me and explain at length over the phone all the options I had in front of me and how I can contact my own car service to see if I have a valid warranty for things they didn’t want to charge me for unnecessarily. I was emailed a breakdown, with photographs, of every item that would need to be addressed, and a complimentary vacuum. I’ve been to many mechanics in the past, some good and some bad, but Girlington garage is GREAT. I highly recommend for anyone who wants good, honest and comprehensive service. Plus, they left me a ginger snap cookie as a thank you for coming in, and offered after hours pickup even when using their loaner car free of charge for the full work day.

The only reason this review is receiving 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 is because the staff at Girlington are genuinely kind and welcoming. I brought my car in with several warning lights on and informed the team that we had already done some research, including a diagnostic reading at AutoZone. The results, along with the warning lights, strongly suggested an issue with the hybrid battery. I specifically asked that they investigate the battery and provided the error code. However, after conducting tests that appeared unrelated to the hybrid system and accumulating $400 in labor charges, they then requested an additional $600 to test the hybrid battery itself. I’ve asked for a breakdown of the work performed and was told it would be provided, but I have yet to receive it. While the technician did explain what they believed was the issue and their intent to investigate further, it became clear that they either lacked experience with hybrid electrical systems or hadn’t encountered this type of issue before. I wish they had been upfront with their limitations before spending time, and my money, on diagnostics that led nowhere. To make matters worse, I informed them I would be picking up the car and discontinuing service and would be by later, which they said would be fine and the car would be ready. The vehicle wasn’t ready due to a computer problem that caused miscommunication between staff and the technician. I was told I’d need to wait several hours or return later (they did offer a loaner vehicle, which I appreciated, but did not accept). Overall, It would have been nice had they treated my time as valuable as the $400 worth of time that I paid them for no answers.

I dropped off the car for a state inspection and to get the battery replaced. When I got the invoice, there were five additional services listed totaling a little over $1,800. I had the chance to reject them, but it felt like a pretty aggressive way to try to upsell. After I approved only the necessary services, I got a notification later in the day that they had to add one more item to the invoice, a replacement mass airflow sensor. And I couldn't reject it if I wanted to pass the state inspection. I'm pretty skeptical that it was actually necessary, and if it had been included before I'd approved other charges, I'd have felt like I could get a second opinion at another garage. They had to order the mass airflow sensor, so I got my car back in the mean time. When I tried to drive it the next day, I got a warning "Check Hybrid System - Stop Vehicle in a Safe Place." When I stopped at a stoplight, the car wouldn't drive until I turned it off and back on again. I couldn't take it back to Girlington Garage because they'd closed for five days for some company event. I took it to another garage, they ran a diagnostic, and based on the results, I'm pretty sure it's related to Girlington fiddling with the mass airflow sensor. Honestly, I feel kind of scammed. The prices are really high, I feel like they tried to sell me things I don't need (and partially succeeded), and I got back a car I couldn't drive for five days. I will say, the Service Manager, Nya, seems really great.

Update posted at the bottom! I cannot say this enough: do NOT take your car here. I brought my car (Subaru Crosstrek) in for a check engine light (which was on for a camshaft position sensor) that I had already previously begun diagnosing myself and had narrowed down the cause to about 4 different possible reasons. They charged me $350 ($387 after taxes) per every 2 hours of diagnostic work in order to discover what was wrong with the vehicle. During those 2 hours, they spent their time doing everything but looking into my check engine light, instead looking at my brakes, blinkers, and any other random part they could. They also tried to charge me $88 ($105 after taxes) for an inspection that I failed that I never asked for in the first place. When I called to ask them to remove the inspection from my bill, they said it was just a recommendation and they weren’t going to actually charge me for it…They then asked me for another $350 to have another two hours on my car to diagnose it, which I refused and said I was going to take my car somewhere else for a diagnostic since they had 2 hours already to try to find the issue and had decided to mess around with things that have nothing to do with the check engine light at all instead. They then magically got approved by their manager to give me an hour of free diagnostic, which I said fine to and after that hour, they still did not find the issue and I’m honestly not even sure what they did. When they asked yet again for the $350 to do another 2 hours, I declined and said stop working on my vehicle, I will pick it up later. When I got my bill, they were recommending I get close to $10,000 worth of repair to my vehicle, most of it for stuff that any other garage would do for a fraction of the price or that my car doesn’t actually need fixed at all. For instance, they wanted to charge me $150 for a blinker that they claimed was out when that blinker is in fact not out and works just fine. They also wanted to charge me $900 for brakes and rotors on just the front of the vehicle and $100 for a “battery corrosion cleaning” when all it needed was some hot water and it was good to go. Cannot stress this enough, DO NOT take your car here, it is a scam business. Update: I took my car to another local mechanic my family trusts in the state and he and his team found the issue very quickly, told me what to do to fix it, and also diagnosed another noise I had been hearing and made a plan to fix that. Total charge for what I asked them to do PLUS the extra diagnostic they did on top of that: $30!

Tried to tell me I need a whole new transmission they changed the fluid and it all worked just fine like I figured… went to pick up my car and they “filled” my wiper fluid charged me for it and I came to pick it up and it was all over the floor with no “hey your washer fluids leaking” or anything. *addition* hey also ignored my request which I had told them don’t move forward until my dad cleared anything aka the flush that he wanted they pushed forward and filled the fluid without clearing it with the person paying the bills and if you’ll look at the texts they clearly wanted me the student to clear these transactions when I obviously stated for them to wait for my fathers response. They basically just wanted my car out of there shop and disregarded our wishes I wish I could’ve commented under their response but I’ll just add this instead since they choose to not contact me and attempt to sweep this under the rug.
