About Horizon Smog
Horizon Smog (Stockton area, ~$69) has Miguel, who stuck with one customer through retest advice until it worked. The desk otherwise runs near-silent - one reviewer had to ask the guy to speak up and smile, and he did.
The negatives are loud: failing equipment blamed on customer cars, yelling and cussing at the counter, and text-me estimates that never came. Convenience shop with volatility. California smog checks. Rated 4.0 across 113 reviews.
Reported smog check price: $69.00. Prices can change; call to confirm.

Miguel stuck with me and provided excellent customer service . Had answers to questions regarding retest and advise . It worked and I walked away a happy camper. He didn’t have to assist at all . But he did . Goid price comparatively . And didn’t have to leave town .
Dude at the desk barely spoke and when he did i could barely hear him, I asked him if he could speak up, which he did, I then told him to smile, lol and he did, I walked in with a quote, and they honored it, paid 58 bucks for a smog plus certificate and was out in less than 30 min. NOT too bad I'm for being a walk in
This was my go to spot for smog, because of convenience . Now it’s been an inconvenience due to failing equipment. Beware, they will fail your car because it wasn’t hooked up properly and you’re stuck with the smog and fees. Had to drive to the other location in Antioch just to pass, and they didn’t even waive the fees. If you’re interested in wasting your time and gas , come here .
I have heard the front desk dork yell at more than one customer. Today I had the honor of being yelled and cussed at by him. The situation could have gone much worse than it did. I would highly suggest avoiding this place like the plague.
Wow, I should have read the reviews before I went. The guy warned me there was going to be a wait but gave me an estimate of about an hour. He said he would text me when it was about my turn for me to come back. Went down the street to grab a sandwich and came back an hour later only for him to tell me it was going to be about another 45 minutes. When I expressed my frustration that his estimate was for about an hour and now he was estimating almost another hour to wait, he was very passive aggressive with his response. No apology for severely underestimating the wait time, no "let's make an appointment", nothing but: "Well, it was just a guestimate. I don't know how long exactly he is going to take to do each car." If your estimate is half the time of the actual time it takes to process a vehicle, then you should have learned that after a couple of days of business and altered your estimates accordingly. That is how to properly guestimate for a client. We left and I made an appointment for another business. Do not recommend going to this place. *Edit to add: forgot to take a photo of their posted prices. The "coupon" looks like it makes a great deal but the price ends up being the same as their posted prices. Super misleading. Either the coupon is a fake or their posted prices are inaccurate. I don't know which because after his response to me being frustrated, I just walked out the door and left.
The absolute worst passive aggressive front desk employee I’ve ever encountered, which is disheartening given that I’ve smogged multiple vehicles here in the past. I hate to downrate any local business, and if you look at my reviews, you’ll see that is not something I do. I’ve used this shop previously and happily so. Unfortunately, the smug arrogance I encountered today while trying to bring my mother in law’s vehicle in for a smog means I will not be coming back. At this point, that feeling is likely mutual, as things unnecessarily escalated and I ended up letting him know (in no uncertain terms) what he could do with himself. I was not looking for a confrontation, but this kid clearly was. For context, I stopped in around 1:30 p.m. There was a sign on the door that read, “Went to Lunch, BE BACK SOON,” which I assumed was posted by the mechanic. The door was unlocked, and having been here many times before, I knew there was a lobby. At no point did anyone state the lobby was closed or that customers should not enter. Instead of simply explaining how long “soon” might be, or stating they were closed for lunch, I was repeatedly asked, again and again, in a smug and condescending tone, whether I had read the sign. A normal person would assume that meant someone would be returning shortly. Asking how soon should not have been treated like an offense. That initial interaction set the tone, and it only went downhill from there. I will continue to encourage people to support small, local businesses, but I cannot in good faith recommend this shop.
Waste of $80, waited 2.5 hours to not get passed. Failed us because of a simple intake filter. Passed somewhere else right after — waited 20 min.
After doing some research online and seeing the reviews. I decided to give this place a go. However, it was not as described. Upon arrival in their office, no one greeted me. When a tech finally came into the office, he just gave me a dead stare... no hi, no nothing like as if he was waiting for me to greet him and tell him why I'm there. 🤨🤨🤨. I then told him I wanted to get a smog done and was emailed a discount coupon I was SUPPOSED to be able to use but he didnt even acknowledge it and just said, all of our smog are 68 out the door. Thinking to myself, Um... ok? So what's all this email thing for? "THEY'RE ALL FALSE ADVERTISEMENTS?!" Anywho, to make matters worse, I waited for over 45 mins with them having just 1 customer ahead of me (who was there ALREADY for who knows how long). NOT 15 mins in and out like their advertisement also claimed. I definitely will not be returning , and neither will I recommend this place. Do pay the extra few bucks and go somewhere else for better and faster services.
Tried to get a smog done these last two days, no luck. Their hours state, they close at 5:30 pm! I arrived yesterday (29 Apr) at 5:15pm, so.....I kinda get it (maybe). I returned today and arrived at 4:30pm, same thing, gentleman in the tie said he couldn’t take me in. WHAT THE?!!! Even the customer that was already sitting in there informed the gentleman that their hours state 5:30pm closing time! Anyway....customer service BLOWS. I had an auto repair shop before and kept my hours. Customer came 1st to me. If, customer arrived after my closing time, different story. Anyway....
Went there for a smog. He did a full inspection that I didn't realize they did. After my car passed he decided to flag the car because he couldn't see something on the catalytic converter that was replaced. Ended up having to go to Livermore for another inspection and converter was fine as it was one of Toyotas. If he couldn't see what he needed to see he should have done a better inspection of it instead of flagging it as tampered. Will never go there again.
