VIN CHECK: Website says you need an appoint, that is not true. They don't answer the phone much either. You can do walk in 8-9 am or 3-3:30 pm. Service was excellent!

The Kapahulu Road Test & Motor Vehicle Control Office is a Honolulu facility that handles road tests for driver's licenses and various vehicle-related procedures. The staff are generally professional and helpful. While appointments are required, the process is generally smooth, but waiting times may occur depending on the time of day. Arriving before the office opens at 8:00 AM may allow you to be accepted into a standby slot due to cancellations.

Despite the traveling distance from the 96782 to this Kapahulu location, ready or not it was "GO" time.Took my road test and passed it on my 1st try🙏🤙. A few pointers to help out with your road test. Your 1st complete stop is exiting from the headquarters and turning right onto the main road, you'll have to merge over to the middle lane. Remember there are (2) two stop lights so pay attention if you see a red light up ahead. Be sure to make complete stops at all traffic lights (Red-Light) and stop signs (no rolling stops). You'll get marked if your vehicle is too far from the solid white line or just passed it when your at a stop light. Depending On the route the instructor tells you to take, make sure to turn your head before changing lanes so do some neck exercises before you begin. Check the bike lanes before turning (use turn signals) and always do head check to see 👀 if it's clear to turn. You will be asked to parallel park either on a hill or somewhere in the neighborhood nearby. Be sure to apply the parking brakes after you've completed the parallel parking. Maintain your speed under the posted 25mph speed limit throughout the entirety of the course. When you have made it through the course and have completed the gauntlet, at the very end of your route you might be asked to perform another parallel parking at the main headquarters so be ready. Once the instructor directs you to park your vehicle in a stall, be sure to apply the parking brakes and turn it off. The course should take you no more than 10mins. Worse. they need to be re-certified. Turning right I checked my left side the instructor say I didn’t check my left side instead I checked my side mirror to turn right. Instructor: i park a little bit far into the sidewalk. She doesn’t even have measurements to say that what a joke. Every road test schedule its $8 11,000+ people a day $88,000+. There instructor are so strict its not safe. They don’t even follow rules because they can say whatever they want. Turning right without looking at your left side. Fee:$88,000+ day WE DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS.

Spent the hour talking with the supervisor about whether my car is safe enough to take the road test. In the end it's whatever the supervisor feels like despite any supporting documents or conflicting info on the road test pamphlet.

Unprofessional and unfair testing – Kapahulu DMV (Motor Vehicle Control) My wife just completed her third road test at the Kapahulu DMV (Motor Vehicle Control), and once again the experience was extremely unprofessional. Her test was conducted by Lavanda (trainee) and Maria (trainer). After the test ended, the two of them actually started arguing with each other right in front of her, making the situation tense and uncomfortable. My wife drove safely and followed every instruction carefully, but they failed her again without giving any clear or valid reason. It honestly felt like they were more focused on fighting with each other than doing their jobs. At this point, it’s hard not to feel like this DMV is taking advantage of people by repeatedly failing them without cause. Staff should be fair, respectful, and professional — not arguing during tests and failing people unfairly. This location needs to be reviewed and held accountable.

Avoid going there as a standby, even if there were no appointments for over 35 minutes, the staff made no effort to assist the very few standbys. They chose break over doing their job even when it was early in the morning w/ no appointments. I also observed a high failure rate, and some people weren’t even given the opportunity to take the driving test. There were customers complains and frustration as well. The only person who was actually helpful was the one handling check-ins. I recommend avoiding this place like the plague.

I had a very disappointing experience with my driving examiner. She was this short filipino lady with a mean mug on her face. From the moment she called my name, both my parents and I sensed a negative, biased attitude. Her tone was sharp and unwelcoming, which immediately set the wrong atmosphere for a test that’s already nerve-racking. During the drive she was nitpicky to an unreasonable degree—especially about hand placement during a head check. She expected me to turn my head in a way that simply isn’t practical for checking a blind spot. While I acknowledged making one wide turn, she repeatedly pointed out minor issues, including habits that other instructors had specifically approved, such as carefully inching forward after a full stop to get a clear view. She even claimed I stopped in a way that “confused” another driver, when in fact I had the green light, maintained motion, and simply slowed for safety because a truck was approaching. It felt less like a fair assessment and more like she was searching for faults. Driving exams are supposed to measure safe driving, not a person’s ability to endure an examiner’s bad attitude. This experience left me feeling more frustrated than evaluated. I hope the testing site reviews her approach, because people trying to earn their license deserve respectful, unbiased treatment. I guess this same lady is well known at the kapahulu road test for failing everyone. I'm not gonna chance having that lady again so I'll be going to another road test site.

I had to file a complaint regarding the repeated unfair treatment I have encountered during the process of attempting to take my driving test. On two separate occasions, I have been unjustly rejected by Examiner Debbie, with her citing issues that I believe are not only minor but have never previously been a problem during past attempts. The first instance involved a rejection because the orange light on my vehicle was deemed “lighter” than the other right light, despite still being orange in color. This seems to be an arbitrary judgment that is not in line with standard driving test requirements. In addition, I was told that the windshield had a small chip. While I understand that vehicle safety is important, the chip does not affect visibility or the safe operation of the vehicle. We have previously arrived multiple times for driving tests and have never encountered any such issues until these recent rejections by Examiner Debbie. Moreover, I would like to express concern that this treatment appears to be consistent only with this examiner and is being further supported by her supervisor, Maria P. It is unfair and unreasonable to repeatedly ask us to return and take time off work, only to have our tests rejected based on these minor and irrelevant reasons. This seems to be an example of discriminatory or arbitrary practices. I requested this situation be reviewed and addressed as it has caused undue stress, inconvenience, and frustration. seeking a fair and impartial review of the actions of both Debbie and Maria P.
