About Mililani Auto Repair
Mililani Auto Repair (Honolulu) locates parts on-island and has professional inspectors, per families who returned year over year despite knowing the mixed reviews.
The tint pattern is the problem: multiple customers report being told their factory or legal tint was illegal, then steered toward removal or temporary passes - conned is the word used. Confirm tint law independently before agreeing to anything. Hawaii safety inspections. Rated 3.6 across 139 reviews.
Customer Reviews
We’re well aware of the mixed reviews, but our family’s direct experience with this shop deserves to be recognized. From start to finish, the mechanic and manager handled our situation with real professionalism and integrity. Our daughter’s Honda Civic had a splash shield that came undone after hitting some rough roads. They diagnosed and resolved the issue with care, and since the car had to stay overnight (May 8–9), they communicated clearly and honestly throughout the process. Mahalo plenty to the crew for treating our family with respect and doing right by our daughter. You showed us that you’re committed to improvement, and we’re grateful for the service and aloha. We had a positive experience and will definitely be returning and recommending you to others.
I came here last year even when I had some issued with paperwork. The man inspecting my car was always professional. -i returned again this year. And had an even better experience. With the friendliness, professionalism, and kindness. - as long as im on island. This is my go to spot for safety checks.
Positive: able to locate parts on island. Mechanic seemed knowledgeable although did not do the work. Room for improvement: Could perform a comprehensive diagnostic rather than 1 part ie.., check all fluid levels, maybe have a checklist to verify hourly mechanical rate.
Literally conned over my tint. I won’t write details but I don’t have time to go anywhere else or argue with that “business”. Fun ripping off factory tint. The tiny younger guy was very unprofessional & had zero people skills. He knew I was military & let a few cars go ahead of me both times I had to come back. I knew what he was doing. I guess I wasn’t expecting much from a tiny guy that will inspect vehicles at a hole in the wall until he passes away. But that’s what you receive when this state requires us to get conned once a year by little guys with superiority complexes. I went to Kilani Auto Repair in Wahiawa to ask if my front plate mount could be mounted because Mililani Auto Repair MAKES you come with plates mounted or they turn you around. Guy at Kilani did it free of charge & put my plates on. Free of charge. I’LL BE GOING TO KILANI AUTO REPAIR next year for my safety inspection.
Unprofessional and untrustworthy. They tried to tell me my completely legal tints were illegal and that they could only give me a temporary pass and recommend a good tinting company. Same thing happened to another guy I know. I’m just trying to get my safety inspection, not trying to get hustled. Save your time and go somewhere else.
Young guy shined flashlight in my face and said to read to sign. I was not blocking the drive. Others were! Inspection performed. Needed to go to DMV for registration. Came back as instructed and young guy proceeded to patronize me about having the plates on before he could put the inspection sticker on. Had to Leave and drive to Auto parts Store to buy a Screwdriver to change plates. Got back and was told I would need to come back in two hours after lunch. Meanwhile he let the two cars in front of me get through and finished. Horrible customer service, but when the demand is high , quality plummets.
Trust the bad reviews. The employees here are RUDE! Unless you’re Hawaiian, this type of service seems common in Hawaii unfortunately. Don’t you dare think of asking questions or expressing concerns. They’re not there for that. They just want you to shut up, pay, fail your inspection, then return to close out the process. Think soup nazi, except you’re not even getting decent service.
Dont bother coming here. 2 hours minimum wait just for them to fail you for the most smallest and irrelevant thing. Inspectors Not in the people’s favor at all they will make sure you fail. 😊 They take a super long lunch break. One inspector working at a time super inefficient, when they can easily have another inspector crank out another car but nah they rather work harder and take 10-20 minutes on ONE single car sometimes longer. Not saying my reason for failing but I brought same car LAST YEAR WITH NO ISSUES 😡 but this year they failed me. Went somewhere else passed absolutely zero issues. I don’t recommend this place look at the reviews guys they speak for themselves 👍🏻
Terrible auto shop. You will sit and wait for atleast 2 hours in the SUN (of course there’s absolutely zero kind of shade) before you’ll ever be seen for a safety inspection. Bunk, not professional line. Allegedly goes on lunch from 12-1, but not seen until ATLEAST 1:30. Not only that, but they’ll fail you for different things that aren’t even “illegal”. My windshield wiper blades worked just fine, but apparently I get to fail for that, and persuaded to purchase their in store, overpriced blades to save time. Do not recommend unless this is the last auto shop that does inspections left on this island.
