About Pearl Street Auto Service
Pearl Street Auto Service in Boston is the kind of shop where TJ, the owner, exchanges a bad AutoZone battery for you instead of selling a new one, and fixes the rear shock a Somerville pothole took out of your Mazda 3 same-day. Those are actual review stories, and they stack up: transparent pricing, no pressure, quick turnaround on both Massachusetts state inspections and repairs.
It is not universally loved - a couple of reviewers describe rude treatment and disputed repair recommendations - but the majority opinion, at 4.5 stars across 135 Google reviews, is that this is one of the more trustworthy independent shops near downtown. Drive-up inspections are the norm here.
Customer Reviews
Came in after failing an inspection at a different location. My 2016 Subaru had a leaking exhaust and burned out fog light. I brought my car here to get a quote and he kept it overnight to inspect it. TJ called me about the price before working on it. TJ was very honest and did everything he could to make sure I got the lowest price possible. He did an excellent job and even passed the inspection after all the work was done. I will be coming here for all future repairs and inspections, and I will be recommending him to everyone! Thank you TJ!
Excellent job and price; TJ was transparent and didn't pressure me to get anything I didn't need and let me get exactly what I was looking for. Came in to fix suspension and parking brake shoes and he ended up also changing service brakes and rotors for very reasonable additional price. Even ended up switching worn calipers without increasing charge. Would definitely recommend.
Really kind and helpful! Got my Mazda 3 back on the road after the Somerville potholes broke a rear shock! Quick and reasonable price. Thank you
Love supporting this small business -- TJ is very friendly, not pushy, and reliable. They are efficient and accommodating here - love that I can often come in for servicing without an appt. Prices are reasonable and fair!
TJ and team are absolutely the best. I work on my car myself when I have time, and can say for sure that these guys know what they are doing, are honest, and price fairly. Great people and great mechanics.
Not sure about the bad reviews but I love this place. TJ is honest and will save you money when he can. I have used them numerous times for a variety of issues over the years. Most recently they replaced my daughter’s starter. They must have noticed her mirror was not secure and put a screw in at no charge didn’t even mention it. Highly recommend this place!
Went in with a car that wouldn't start. Turns out the battery from AutoZone was bad. TJ exchanged it on my behalf and got me up and running fast. He even filled up my tires and didn't even mention it! Very kind guy and good quick service.
Went for a car inspection. Seems the guy was having a bad day maybe but he was super rude and started shouting saying he didn’t want my business. He wasn’t rude in the past when we went for car inspections for years. Maybe it was a bad day for him but that is NOT how you treat your customers. Blowing up at people is not professional.
They will lie to you, overcharge you and when you hold them accountable they will say you need more repairs on your car. Absolute scammers and have the audacity to yell at customers. You can spend your money wisely at other 100 auto shops in the vicinity.
