About WIVIP Milwaukee South Emissions Testing

Wisconsin's Milwaukee South VIP emissions station offers a self-service kiosk that 2007-and-newer drivers can run themselves - zero contact, minutes, done. Staffed lanes run friendly and clear on quiet Wednesday afternoons, and the traffic flow in and out is well planned even when lines build.

The complaints: unhelpful signage with rude staff on some shifts, and posted hours that didn't match reality for one 15-mile drive. Call ahead. Rated 4.2 across 325+ reviews.

SELF SERVICE KIOSK IS All 5 stars...read this.. Tired if emissions? No time? Look at this location and the location on Brown deer road from a new angle? USE THE SELF SERVICE KIOSK! And consider doing it when the place is closed. My son and I went on Easter Sunday at 9pm. Drove straight up to easily recognizable kiosk, my reluctant teen aged son followed the kiosk instructions and in less than 2 minutes he had the car plugged in (the plug is always under the steering wheel near your knees). The kiosk ran a test and said we passed. He unplugged and put the cord back with ease. We had to confirm the vin and put in the plate number and then printed the results. But the kiosk was out of paper... sounds terrible, but it offered an email option, so we entered my email and on Easter Sunday we got our emissions test completed with a report emailed to us in under 5 minutes. I can't tell you how great this was, remembering waiting in long lines and sweating out results for an hour. The kiosk appears to be open 24/7. Instead of wasting a long lunch having an unfriendly tech test you, get up a little early or go in the evening, anything off hours.

Well worth the wait. Lines tend to get long at points in the day. However, access in and out are well planed. Staff appears to be well trained and demonstrate an affinity for both technical and communication skills with the public. The level of professionalism and treatment of the public is a rare find these days for this type of service. The greatest challenge is the attitude of patrons waiting for service. It appears the long waits breeds hostility in many people. Patrons need to develop a level of patience and inner calm. Avoid carrying a concealed weapon. You might be tempted to use it. Keep it locked in the trunk with ammunition stored separately. Either that or take a chill pill.

Very fast in and out Emissions inspection. Went on a Wednesday afternoon and was the only one when I got there. Techs were friendly and polite and provided clear instructions.

So fast and so easy I would give 6 stars if I could. The machine outside you can do yourself and have your emissions done in minutes with zero contact for 2007 or newer cars. You can also go inside which is just as quick and the people are friendly.

I didn't see a sign when I pulled in, wasn't sure i was in the right place. One guy gave me an attitude about it. He made me go back even though I was the only one there. The guy who actually did the testing was actually friendly. But it's a free, needed service.

First time and last time customer to this location. I’m sure they don’t care as they have so much business and the emissions testing is free BUT it feels like you might as well go somewhere and pay if you have to, because they are so rude here. They tell you to honk at this door I’m attaching, and then get upset when you do. If they tell the car in front of you something, you better strain your ears to listen because you will be yelled at for not knowing what to do next. The car in front of me pulled off in the direction of the road. I guess they circled back to the line, but I wasn’t looking behind me so I got yelled at for pulling up. There was actually no reason for him to make that car go to the back of the line so it threw me off. He then made me go to the back of the line as well after I told the technician that he didn’t have to yell at me. I’m a confused first time customer. After going to the back of the line I went through with the process without further altercation, but to yell at people who have not yelled at you is so unprofessional. Also to send two cars to the back just because you weren’t ready or you were mad we honked the horn as the sign indicates don’t make sense. The process itself is very quick, that particular technician just sucked.

Only 1 employee was knowledgeable and nice. Everyone else was rude and awful. Couldn't tell you where to go, signs were unhelpful and took forever. Then when asking follow-up questions was told to read the paperwork and when I pointed to the paper work with a specific questions I was still not given answers until the 1 employee who I honestly regret not getting their name but I was so overwhelmed by this point, came over and finally helped me. I will drive hours to go literally anywhere else to avoid going here again.

Very disappointed. I drove 15 miles specifically for emissions testing because both Google and their website stated they were open until 6:00 PM. I arrived at 5:20 PM only to find the facility closed with no one there. I understand businesses may have different cut-off times for certain services, but that should be clearly communicated online. Had the posted hours been accurate, I would not have wasted my time and fuel making the trip. Please update your hours or clearly state the emissions testing cut-off time so other customers don’t experience the same frustration.
