About Greg's Japanese Auto
Greg's Japanese Auto in Seattle specializes in the cars other shops wave off - JDM wiring issues and old Avalons get proper attention, and a freeway breakdown towed in at 1:30pm was repaired same day by Martin's crew. Brake replacements drop in around noon and get accommodated.
Despite the name, non-Japanese cars are welcome. The negatives: one multi-service visit ran long with poor communication, and a 4Runner alternator job hit a parts-quality stumble. Washington state has dropped emissions testing. Rated 4.5 across 600 reviews.

Martin and team at Greg's saved the day! I came in by tow truck after my car went kaput on the freeway. I didn't get there until 1:30pm and they had my car repaired, including having to order and receive a new alternator, at 5:00pm so I was able to drive home after work. Martin was courteous, thoughtful, kind, and went above and beyond in getting part in order to get me on my way. I thank also the mechanics who made good use of the time by replacing the also-defunct battery and everything else while the part was on its way. I have been using Greg's Japanese Auto for more than 20 years, first here on Stewart street and now in Tukwila, and I have ALWAYS been treated fairly, and they always listen to what I have to say, never brushing me off. Thank you all!!
Fantastic experience at Greg's. Dropped in for brake replacement around noon, Martin was very friendly, professional and accommodating. They were able to give me a quick turnaround at a reasonable price, quoted up front and with no variables. Choose great small businesses like Greg's over the chains.... you'll appreciate their work and feel good about yourself for supporting local, hardworking establishments š
I was really pleased that they took my vehicle in on short notice and fixed the wiring issue on my starter. The vehicle is JDM and most mechanics do not even bother to take these type of vehicles in. I explained it was a straight forward job and they trusted me and made an exception without any hassle. The completed the work on time, price was totally fair and all the people at the shop were super friendly. 5 stars to the tech Aiden(sp?) who took on the job and the staff!
These guys are always so honest and fair about my automobile needs. I drive a very old Avalon, and they have been great helping me with everything that needs to be done. This is literally the only garage that I get EXCITED taking my car to, because of how serious they take the job!
Greg's is the best in town for all my car repair needs! (and it doesn't need to be a Japanese vehicle) Anything from a nail in the tire, oil changes, vehicle diagnostics, suspension, to engine repairs. They even do tires! Customer service is excellent!
I recently had some car troubles and took it over to Gregās. They were honest and so nice! My entire experience was amazing!! Hopefully nothing goes wrong with my car anytime soon, but if it does, I know exactly where Iām going!
I visited Gregās Japanese Auto for an oil change, tire rotation and brake fluid change on my VW Passat. I chose this location specifically because they advertise European Formula oil, which is required for my vehicle. Booking the appointment online was easy, and during drop-off I confirmed with the team that European Formula oil would be used. At pickup, I noticed a couple of issues: The tires had not been rotated. I had marked the front tires beforehand, and those marks were still in the same position. Although there was some initial pushback, the final inspection report also did not include photos confirming the rotation, which I understand is part of their standard process. The oil used was Dexos Gen 3 5W-30, which does not meet the VW 502 00 specification clearly indicated under the hood. This suggests there may be gaps in familiarity with manufacturer-specific oil requirements, especially for European vehicles. To their credit, the team took my concerns seriously and corrected both issues by replacing the oil with the proper spec and completing the tire rotation. Customer service was professional, and they made it right without additional charges. However, resolving this required me to spend a few extra hours at the shop. Overall, this was a mixed experience. I appreciate their willingness to fix the mistakes, but I would recommend that customers be very explicit about required parts and specificationsāor consider bringing their ownāto avoid similar issues.
Iām not really sure how this place has such good reviews. Took my car in for oil change/tire rotation/fluid/and regular inspection. Dropped it off and was told it would be done by the end of the day. Waited all day for a call and finally called them near closing and told that it was still not done and I would have to come pick it up the next morning. Thatās so ridiculous for something as simple as an oil change. Iām not sure if itās because Iām a girl and donāt know a whole lot about cars but I feel like they definitely took advantage of that and took their sweet time doing very simple tasks on the car and definitely overcharged me as well. Super disrespectful of peoples time and money. At that point Iād much rather go to a dealership for the same prices but faster service and better customer service. Do not recommend.
2005 Toyota 4Runner came in with a bad alternator. They ordered a new alternator, battery and serpentine belt for replacement. Supposed to be a straightforward service. Took hours with no phone calls to follow up with me on the status. I had to keep calling for updates. When I finally got ahold of them they said they had to order a new parts. I prepaid them $1200.00 and now they are diagnosing it again claiming there is a wiring issue. I have reason to believe that it was misdiagnosed in the first place. My car has been with them for 3 days now and still no word on what the issue is. I am concerned that it is now going to cost me even more money to fix whatever the issue should have been in the first place.
I took my car in for diagnosis and the quote they gave me back was $11k. It was a laundry list of everything that needed to be fixed but mostly stuff that didnāt need to be fixed. They basically threw everything they could on there with very little explanation. To the untrained eye something like this would make someone think it would be better to sell the car and buy a new one, however I know my car is running strong and just needs a couple small-medium sized fixes. When I went to go pick up my car it was blocked in even though I told them I would be picking it up in the afternoon. I will not be taking my car back.
