About Hillsboro DEQ Test Station
Oregon DEQ stations don't usually get called the best interaction someone has ever had with a public agency, but that's an actual quote from a Hillsboro reviewer, and it captures the trend: no wait or a 15-20 minute wait, technicians like Connor and Quentin who explain what they're doing, and a process that finishes inside half an hour even when busy.
The pro tip that comes up repeatedly: check DEQ's live lane camera online before you leave the house, because waits here swing from empty to backed up depending on the day. Evenings have historically been quiet. Bring your DMV paperwork and insurance for re-registration. Rated 4.4 across 2,500+ reviews.

Very fast and efficient testing. One can check the line on the website before heading over. Despite 1 car testing, 2 cars being in line in front of me and only 1 car testing at a time in the line that i joined, i was done within 40mins Actual testing time was less than 15mins including the paperwork and payment for registration renewal. I have used this testing station before and will do so in future as well. Jahzeel was my inspector and she was great.
Honestly a smooth process here at Hillsboro DEQ. Wait time on a Wednesday was about 20 minutes. No complaints here. Staff member (Connor) was nice and social, got the job done while providing great customer service. Thanks everyone, see you in 2 years š.
Canāt believe Iām rating DEQ, BUTā¦this had to have been THE BEST interaction I have EVER had with a public agency. First, there was NO WAIT. The agent/technician was CHARMING, INTERESTED, INFORMATIVE, HELPFUL,and EXPEDITIOUS in completing his tasks. I want to go back tomorrow but canāt think of a reason to go. Why canāt all government interactions be like this??
I expected a lot worse, like many other people probably do. Contrarily, I was in and out in 15 minutes, dealt with an extremely friendly gentleman, facility was clean and well organized, and there was obvious professionalism with the advisor helping me. Highly recommend this location!!
Dear Quentin, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional service I received at the DEQ office in Hillsboro. My experience was truly outstanding, and I appreciate the efficiency and professionalism of the staff. I was able to get my stickers for the next two years in just 10 minutes, which is a remarkable improvement over the usual 45-minute wait time. I also appreciated that I was able to receive my stickers immediately, rather than having to wait for them to be mailed to me. Thank you for providing such great service! It's clear that the team at the Hillsboro DEQ office is dedicated to making the process as smooth and convenient as possible for customers. Please pass along my appreciation to the staff, and keep up the excellent work! Sincerely, Igor
Visited on Wednesday at 11:30AM. Line was not too bad but relatively busy. In the past Iāve visited in evenings and absolutely no line. If you are paying with card, you have a better chance to quicker line. I have lost my registration renewal letter and only had to do DEA test after which I was able to complete registration renewal online without going to DMV
Barely any wait on a Thursday around 12:45. (Check the online camera before you go). Quick and easy process. For re-registering bring your DMV paperwork, insurance info and payment.
Well I did wait till the end of the month and went in around 3:00 So the 1hr and 47min wait time was probably my fault. But the gentleman who did my test seemed unphased by the many people who were waiting. He did not rush me and he was friendly and he had a smile as he worked . So after having to wait for almost 2 hours he made this process for me almost painless. Oh I did see on Wednesday they stay open till 7:00pm so that may be helpful for some folks .
Wait times here are extremely unpredictable due to how lanes are managed. I arrived during what appeared to be a reasonable window (line contained to the lot, multiple lanes open). Partway through, staff had some of us change lanes to shorter ones, which I did ā yet my total wait was still about 40 minutes. What made the experience especially frustrating was the lack of consistency across lanes. Some lanes were moving cars through at a pace of 12ā15 minutes per vehicle, while others were consistently moving at roughly half that time, with no apparent reason for the disparity. Additional lanes were opened later, allowing people who arrived after me to be processed and leave sooner. I understand emissions testing takes time, but the combination of uneven lane pacing and unpredictable wait times makes this location frustrating, particularly for anyone on a schedule or trying to minimize time in line. For a more predictable experience, I would recommend using a DEQ Too location instead.
