About NE Portland DEQ Test Station
NE Portland's DEQ station keeps a long line moving, which is the recurring theme - staff are described as kind and efficient even when the lot is full from open to close. Randy earns a name-check for thorough directions. Six-minute visits happen on quiet Friday afternoons; opening time on weekdays can already have a queue.
Regulars check the DEQ lane cameras before leaving home, and the station stays open late on Wednesdays - that's the insider window. One practical note: the entrance is on the west side of the street, which confuses first-timers. Rated 4.5 across 1,700+ reviews.

It was super quick and easy on a Friday afternoon. Check the deq cameras before heading over to see if there are lines. They are open late on Wednesdays and thats another good time to go.
Randy greeted me! He was super kind , very thorough on directions and giving information I appreciate him! Got in and out (about 6mins?) on a Friday at around 3:45pm. Thank you DEQ team! š
Really great experience. Knowledgeable, helpful, patient and kind. The entry is on the west side of the street, not the east side. Left with tags in hand! You do have to pay for the test, if you want your in-person tags. I made the mistake of going to jiffy lube to get the DEQ done, but if you do it that way, you have to do the application online, and it won't be same day. It was worth it! Now I know!
Good for what it is. I went right when they opened on a weekday morning and the line was pretty long. But they do their best to keep things moving fluidly. And the check itself took no time at all. Easy to process payment by card.
I had the Nicest Service Attendant. He was Fast efficient and extremely kind although their lines were completely full from open to close and many customers were Not so kind to him. He did his job with a smile and I was happy he was there! I wish I knew his name to personally acknowledge him but something tells me he knows he's a good human and will continue to be. Obviously nobody likes the long lines and expensive rates but that's to be expected these days, unfortunately. Glad they have a worker that is still kind and doesn't make the experience Worse!
As far as bureaucratic processes and procedures go, this place was very efficient. Line was long, but moved along at a decent pace, the workers are great at their jobs, and friendly to boot. Will use this location in the future for all renewal needs.

On a Friday at 1pm in late July, I waited 30 minutes. Line attendant asked about my payment method and guided me to the appropriate lane. Test went quickly, tester was polite and helpful. Didnāt love paying so much to register my plug-in hybrid, but the tax man gotta get his.
Well oiled machine of a operation. Good signage, went late at night on a Wed and it was quiet but they don't accept payment via Google pay or Apple Pay - due to an attack on their system, so bring your physical card or cash. These people work hard! If you come during the day, and 20+ min wait is expected.
Googleās ālive updatesā on wait times are COMPLETELY inaccurate. The line was out to the street and it said āless busy than usualā. Waited in the car for over an hour before getting seen. That aside, the attendants here are always kind and move quickly!
I came to the station at 4:50 on 11/12/2025 and left 5:30, there was a one big line of cars and all of them didn't know which lane they were supposed to go to. That's why there was a big line of cars. Then a guy came out of lane 3 and directed everyone where to go. He derected 4 cars in to his lane but there was no employee at that lane so after he finished directing he slowly came to his station and started very slow work. Slow working means he was blah blah blah blah blah with people in front me while lane 2 and 1 went through 6 cars plus 4 the ones that came after me. Very frustrating of the government workers!!!!!
