About Sherwood DEQ Test Station
Sherwood is the DEQ station Portland reviewers recommend over Hillsboro: no wait on a Saturday when other stations are stacked, under ten minutes for a first-timer, and a 15-minute turnaround even with lines halfway to the road. David R. gets praised for knowledge that goes beyond the test itself.
Wednesday evenings run quiet since the late hours are underused - the staff themselves tip customers to it. Bring your renewal notice. One reviewer had to loop back through a second time over a lane issue, which is about the worst thing anyone reports here. Rated 4.6 across 1,500+ reviews.

The service and the treatment from the staff was amazing and fast! I love to see people smiling and she had a really friendly smile. Thank you for that!
Amazing 1st experience. I’ve never done DEQ before and it was so fast! I had to have been in and out in under 10 minutes if even. I think the guy who was helping me is Ricky? Richard? Something but he was so so kind and helpful and I really appreciate them being open on Saturdays ❤️
Came in 1/22/26 around 8:45am (15 minute wait with lines halfway to the road-IMPRESSIVELY QUICK) David R. was VERY friendly and super knowledgeable with all the questions I had- (He made my experience at DEQ very personable and all around great!) I’ve been coming here for quite some time now and I always recommend all family/Friends to go to this location in Sherwood not just for the quick turn over time but also for the great staff! Thanks again everyone- See you in 2 years!
So much better than Hillsboro! I was there today (Saturday), and there was no wait whatsoever. The people are very nice, even though my car is still "unready" after 3 tests.
I had such a great experience at the DEQ location in Sherwood and wanted to share how smooth and efficient the whole process was. I arrived early, right when they opened, and was the first one in line. From start to finish, the entire visit took about 15 minutes — truly fast and easy! The staff was extremely polite, professional, and welcoming. They explained everything clearly, handled my vehicle quickly, and made the process absolutely stress-free. Not only did I get my emissions test done, but I was also able to take care of my registration and receive my new tags right there on the spot — no trip to the DMV required. That convenience alone deserves five stars! Everyone I interacted with was friendly and courteous, and you can tell this team really values efficiency and customer service. It’s refreshing to go somewhere that is organized, clean, and run by people who take pride in doing their job well. If you need DEQ services, I highly recommend coming to this Sherwood location. Get there early, and you’ll be in and out before you even finish your morning coffee. Outstanding service — five stars well deserved!
Low wait times, if there is even a wait. Friendly staff. The process is quick and easy. I have brought in 4 vehicles this year. Make sure to bring your renewal notice so you can get your tabs at the same time. There is available parking you can use if you need to put your tabs on right away. If you don't have your notice with you then go online to Oregon DMV to purchase the tabs and they will be mailed to you--quicker than going into DMV.
Went in a Wednesday evening and had a short wait time. The staff was friendly and said not many people go when they are open late. That was good for me! The DEQ test process was all of 10 min and I got my tags!
Friendly people, clean place. Could be quicker. The appointment kiosk is a little confusing, please add a note or something that the kiosk is for appointments only, and walk-ins need to check in at the information desk. Or update the kiosk to let walk-ins check in there.
The line was long but moved quickly. I was in and out in ~20 minutes on a Wednesday morning. Got my emissions test and tags. Alex was quick, efficient, friendly, and was listening to KEXP radio in the office - nice! If anything is going to help soften the blow of a $350 vehicle registration renewal fee, it is Cheryl Waters' soothing voice introducing me to cool new indie music.
Not a positive experience, had to drive in a second time immediately after driving out. Edit, second time through, asked for a different lane, same guy. Yeah, zero stars if possible. Edit 2: Went to the Hillsboro DEQ and they did my test. Yeah, this Sherwood one is complete trash.
