Baltimore City Self-Service Vehicle Emissions Testing Kiosk

Friendly staff and process took less than 10 minutes. It would probably have a sign stating proceed to testing area and you don't have to go to the office.

Self service kiosk is the way to go. Usually no line. Takes about 5 minutes if you know where your plug in on your car is. Take advantage!

Kiosk worked fine for me, went shortly after full service closing and waiting for like 3 minutes for one person who was already in progress. Thank you to the person in reviews who mentioned to just ignore the message that pops up about a problem with the credit card after you remove it. As they said, I just waited a minute and after it finished processing the card the error message went away with no additional action on my part and payment went through and the rest of the test proceeded just fine. Took 5 minutes or so, I did know where my OBD reader was but it did take some wiggling and trying both ways to get the cord on well, so be sure you know where it's supposed to go on your car or you may have doubts.

Good service In and out in about 15 minutes plus a friendly atmosphere from the workers very polite.

Hardly no cars so my wait wasn't long. Great customer service with a greeting and a smile.

This was my first time doing an MD emissions test and the person who did my test was so kind, informative, and fast. You could tell he enjoyed helping people / being informative. I was in and out (on a weekday, mid morning).

Went today (5/18/26) @ 7PM. Only downside is electronic scanner (it beeps and then rolls back to start screen). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND picking manual entry and skip the scanner. Manual entry is only tag number and last 4 digits of vin number. All info is on your letter OR REGISTRATION. If you use manual entry, it will be 5 minutes max!!!

Generally a pretty smooth experience. If you want to use the 24 hour Kiosk, make sure that your car is at least a 2005 or later model. For reference, my Honda Civic Le didnt have to port for their reader (or at the very least, I couldn't find it).

The self service kiosk is available 24/7, it's well lit at night, and the instructions are clear. The kiosk couldn't read my usual credit card for some reason (and it doesn't take cash), so bring a backup if you can. If the main screen is frozen and the card reader screen says "this lane is closed", tap the touchscreen multiple times and you'll eventually get a popup that lets you close the program. It will automatically restart which takes 1-2 minutes.

It's just a self-service kiosk. They're not that much faster than an inspector, and cost a bit more. When the inspectors' lanes are backed up, if you can follow some basic instructions on the screen, you might get it done without having to wait for as many people ahead of you. The best way MVA could improve this is by installing a second kiosk.
