About Beltsville Self-Service Vehicle Emissions Testing (VEIP) Kiosk

Maryland's VEIP self-service kiosk in Beltsville lets you run your own emissions test - scan the barcode, pay, plug in the OBD-II port, follow the touchscreen. Reviews from quiet times describe five-minute visits, and knowing where your OBD-II port is beforehand makes it genuinely easy.

The catch is capacity: it's a single machine, and reviews report multi-hour lines at peak, plus reliability issues after midnight. Go early, bring an umbrella for the screen glare, and have a backup plan if there's a queue. Rated 3.6 across 940 reviews - great concept, thin staffing.

Just have a little knowledge before you go there about where your obdii port is and it’s easy as 123.

I had a great and super easy experience using the self-service emissions testing station. After scanning the barcode and making the payment, the whole process took maybe one to two minutes! Just plug in the OBD scanner, start the car for a few seconds, turn it off, and wait for the printout of the results. Everything was quick, straightforward, and convenient—highly recommend!

Successful trip to test my car emissions. Read the test instructions on their screen. Tip: bring an umbrella and a friend. To assist with daytime sun glare on their test screen. Thank you for the 24/7 testing kiosk! 🙏

Easy piece of work done. Spent about 5 minutes waiting for vehicles ahead of me and a quick follow instructions on the touch screen. Wait times may differ and if there is a long queue of vehicles, you decide whether you would prefer to wait or to leave and come back another time. In my first experience there was no one ahead of me so I was done as quick as a blink, my second experience was just a 5 minute wait for others to finish using the kiosk. The kiosk gives a print out of the report. My recommendation is that MVA should put up a shelter to protect customers when it rains, so that drivers can still use the kiosk during rainy days. As at May 2023.

This kiosk is only good if you early. It is broken after midnight literally everytime I go. So if you need to use it go early

Used to be great, had no lines, cheap, 24/7, but today... Wasted 4 hours in line for this from the guy before me

I showed up around 4 pm on a Monday and there was a huge line. They really need more than one machine at this location. Absolutely pointless.

NOT 24hrs. Arrived late night to an out of order screen. A miserable bait and swap. Its listed EVERYWHERE that these things are 24hrs - on google, their website, the annoying paper they send out - yet everyone shows up after hours to out of order screens. They raise our taxes, yet we get less services, long lines & broken machines. Plus it’s a stupid cash grab anyway. I have a relatively new car, why do I have to emission test every 2yrs? I’ve lived in 6 states and this the only one w this trash. Shame! Shame! Shame!
