About Shirlington Shell Service Center
Shirlington Shell is a neighborhood institution by any measure - one family has come since 1975, a brother worked there in the late 80s, and Mr. Wesley's tire repair from a first visit turned into a decade of loyalty. Edwin's crew handles Virginia safety inspections and emergency repairs with the same fifteen-minute, no-upsell approach.
The negative review describes an oil-change wait gone wrong after being told to come back, so walk-in timing is a gamble. Rated 4.5 across nearly 900 reviews.

The first time I went to this gas station I had a nail in my tire. Mr. Wesley (that’s his first name but out of respect he’s Mr.). Fast forward 10yrs I still go to him if I have any problems with my car and I don’t want to take it to the dealership. I go here and look for Mr. Wesley. Before I leave he always checks the tire pressure on all my tires. They look out for me. Everyone is nice at this station. They have several people who have been there for a long time. They do great work…especially Mr. Wesley.
I come to see them to take care of my three cars. The prices are fair, and the service is excellent and welcoming. They take the time to explain exactly which services are necessary and which are not. While other car dealers shops typically recommend maintenance based solely on mileage, this place recommences specifically to the actual usage conditions of your vehicle. If there are some services they don’t do, no worry. They will refer you to other places they trust.
Great service! I’ve only had to stop there on two occasions for emergency service. They handled each situation with care and efficiency. In an out it 15 tops! Reasonable prices also 💯
Super easy, super fast, great work and no nonsense or upsell pressure. They simply took care of the repair I needed and got me back in my car the same day. I called them at 8 o’clock in the morning and they were able to see me same day. An hour after I dropped off the car I got a text with a quote, I checked off the services I wanted and hit reply. A few hours later, I got a text that my car was ready, we settled up and I drove away happy. My new breaks work great. Thank you!
I’ve taken two of my cars here for safety inspections, and I couldn’t be happier with the service. Everyone was incredibly polite, professional, and easy to talk to. They explained everything clearly and were very understanding throughout the process. One of my cars needed a windshield replacement, and they gave me an excellent price—much better than I expected! It’s so rare to find a mechanic you can truly trust, but I definitely found that here. I’ll be coming back and recommending them to friends and family. Thank you!
I can’t say enough good things about Shirlington Shell Auto Shop, I’ve been taking my car here for since 2018. Edwin and his team are true professionals — knowledgeable, honest, and incredibly helpful. From the moment I brought my car in, I felt like I was in good hands. Edwin took the time to clearly explain what needed to be done and provided fair, transparent pricing. The service was prompt, and they even went above and beyond to make sure everything was running smoothly before I left. Highly recommend.
My family has been going to them since 1975. My brother worked there in the late 80s and early 90s. They treat us like family and have .taken care of all the cars we have brought them over the years. They're prices are fair and reasonable and take great care of your car and the customer service is excellent. They been here since before I moved here and are an independent business. Please check them out they will take care of your car and fix it properly. I hope you will check them out.
It pains me to leave this review because I’ve been a loyal customer of Shirlington Shell for about five years. During that time, I’ve relied on them for oil changes, state inspections, and other routine maintenance. My understanding has always been that the oil change service I requested included a tire rotation. Last fall, I realized my wheel lock key was missing, so I ordered a replacement from McGuard early this year, (but certainly before) I brought my car back to Shirlington Shell on May 27, 2026, for another oil change, believing the tires would be rotated as part of the service. Today (July 23, 2026), I took my car elsewhere to have a tire serviced and discovered I couldn’t find my wheel lock key. I called Shirlington Shell to ask whether it had been left there. Only then was I told that they hadn’t performed a tire rotation during my last visit. That immediately raised serious concerns for me. If no tire rotation was performed because the wheel lock key wasn’t available, why wasn’t I informed at the time? And if that’s what happened during my most recent visit, it makes me question whether tire rotations were actually being performed during previous oil changes as well, despite my believing they were. Alternatively, if they did have access to the wheel lock key, why wasn’t that communicated when I called? Neither possibility inspires confidence. For context, the only places that have worked on my wheels have been Shirlington Shell. And perhaps, and I repeat, “perhaps”, the dealership for a recall back in 2022/23. That’s why this situation is so frustrating. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I’ve trusted this shop for years, but this experience has seriously damaged that trust. Long-term customers deserve clear communication, especially when a requested service cannot be completed.
I would absolutely never go here again for anything more than an oil change. They were responsive to inquiries, but lacked honesty and attention to detail. I went for a side view mirror repair. They put a BLACK mirror (which does not match the color of the other mirror) on my GOLD car WITHOUT DISCLOSING it would be a different color. The manager stated that they were justified in installing a different color mirror without telling me because I had asked for a cost effective replacement. If this information had been disclosed to me I wouldn’t have problem, but the gap in communication is unacceptable from a customer point of view. I highly suggest not going here at all and moreover as a single woman. A customer should expect to (a) be told if a part will be a different color and (b) APPROVE that decision. Neither of these things occurred.
Absolutely Horrible Experience – Do Not Trust This Shop I called this Shell gas station to ask if I could walk in for an oil change, and they told me to come by. I went in and got an oil change and tire rotation. It took about an hour and a half, and I paid $113. The moment I drove off, I heard strange noises. Within 60 seconds, my car completely broke down just two blocks away — the entire front driver’s side tire came off and rolled into the street. I got out and realized they had forgotten to put the lug nuts back on that tire. This careless mistake caused serious damage to my vehicle and put me in a dangerous situation. When I went back, they told me they couldn’t even begin processing a claim with their insurance until the next day. I was left without a car for several days, all because of their negligence. This was a completely avoidable and dangerous mistake that could have caused an accident. The inconvenience, stress, and damage it caused me were unreal. DO NOT bring your car here for any kind of servicing. They are careless and irresponsible.
